When you think about all the things you can buy in the US, how do you keep up with all of them?
A few years ago, the Mountain Bike World Congress was in the Valley, and I was at a dinner table with two friends.
One was the editor of Mountain Biking World, the other the CEO of the company.
It was the perfect opportunity to talk about the industry and the trends we were seeing.
One of them asked, “What’s the most important thing you can spend money on?”
I explained that I’m a small business owner and I spent a lot of money on bike gear, but the real thing I spend money buying is the best accessories I can find.
The topic immediately changed.
I started getting emails from readers telling me what products they wanted in the future.
A few days later, we got an email from the CEO.
“We can’t have this conversation anymore,” he said.
“If we do, you guys will never hear from us again.”
The company was one of the first to get the word out about the need to be more aggressive with the accessories market.
Today, the company has over 500 million subscribers on YouTube and Instagram and is on the radar of a slew of major brands like Adidas, Trek, and Puma.
But even with the influx of interest in bike accessories and bike gear over the last few years, the industry hasn’t changed much.
The same can be said of the bikes.
The industry continues to grow, but its not going anywhere anytime soon.
The future is uncertain.
